Why Timing Matters in Lawn Care Programs

Why Timing Matters in Lawn Care Programs

If you’ve ever wondered why your lawn care program follows a specific schedule—or why you might still spot a few dandelions even after treatment—here’s what’s really going on.

At Fresh Cut Pros, we don’t just show up and spray. Our program is carefully timed to give your lawn the best results all season long.

Visit 1 – Fertilization

The first visit kicks off the season with a dose of fertilizer to wake up your lawn after winter. This promotes early green-up and helps thicken the turf before weeds have a chance to move in.

Visit 2 – Pre-Emergent Weed Control

Timing is everything with this one. Pre-emergents work by forming a barrier in the soil that stops weed seeds—like crabgrass—from germinating. But if we’re late? That barrier doesn’t work.
That’s why we aim to apply it before soil temps hit 55°F—usually in early spring.

🌼 But What About the Dandelions?

You might still see some—and here’s why.

  • Dandelions often blow in from neighboring yards. So even if we’re on schedule, your lawn can still inherit last year’s weed problems.

  • Spraying too early doesn’t work. Dandelions need to be fully emerged to be effectively treated with post-emergent products. If we hit them too soon, we just waste product—and your time.

  • If needed, we’ll follow up with a spot treatment once they’re visible and actively growing.

Trust the Process

We get that seeing weeds can be frustrating—but our timing is deliberate. Each visit builds on the last to create a thick, healthy lawn that naturally resists weeds over time. Stick with the program, and by mid-season, your lawn will be thicker, cleaner, and greener than ever.
